Mandatory facemask standards enforcement for importers

  28th May , 2020 ,       Hits:

Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) wishes to inform all importers that enforcement of the mandatory facemask and respiratory protective devices standards shall be applicable to all shipments with Bill of Lading date 8th June 2020 and thereafter.  Importers are duly advised to communicate this to their suppliers and value chain partners.

With the coming into force of a directive making it mandatory for all Ugandans to wear facemasks in public, UNBS released a set of standards for the manufacture of non-medical facemasks.

 (1)     Respiratory protective devices – filtering half masks to protect against particles – requirements, testing, and marking (US ISO/TS 16976 Series)

(2)      Medical face masks – requirements and test methods (US EN 14683:2019 + AC:2019)

(3)      Non- medical masks- specification (US 2552:2020)

The frequent use of masks is one of the measures put forward by Government of Uganda to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
