Mr. Hakim Mufumbiro is the Acting Manager Standards Department at UNBS where he is responsible for providing strategic leadership with regard to development and promotion of Uganda Standards. He holds a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Food Science and Technology and a BSc (Hons) degree in Food Science and Technology both from Makerere University as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management from Uganda Management Institute. He has 14 years experience, 4 years working in different food industries in Uganda and 10 years in standards development and promotion at the national, regional and international level. His experience spans the areas of Quality control and Assurance, food safety and quality policy formulation and implementation and Food Safety and Quality Management systems development and implementation.
He has trained in standards development and harmonization, ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems), ISO 22000 (Food Safety Management System), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point, ISO 14001 (Environment Management Systems), ISO 45001 (Occupation Health and Safety Management Systems), Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Measures and Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT), Agricultural biotechnology and biosafety, Microbiological Risk Assessment and Food Safety Preventive Controls. He is a Preventive Control Qualified Individual and delivered training in food safety and hygiene at the national and regional level especially Agro based SMEs in Uganda with regard to meeting national standards to increase their competitiveness in the market.
Hakim is a member of the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP), Africa Association for Food Protection (AAFP) and Food Science and Technology Platform (FosTeP) – Kenya. He participates in activities of the National Codex Committee, National TBT/SPS Committee and serves as a member to the Regional Expert Working Group on Aflatoxin, Standards Management Committee and Codex Forum which are all Technical Committees at the EAC.
