UNBS hosted the second Agricultural Value Chain Development Programme (AVCP) – Project 1 steering committee meeting, chaired by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries   Permanent Secretary, Maj. Gen. David Kasura-Kyomukama.

The UNBS Executive Director, Mr. David Livingstone Ebiru, welcomed the steering committee meeting members and led them to a tour of the National Metrology Laboratory (NML) construction, which nears completion.

UNBS, through the National Metrology Laboratory, ensures that all measurements are internationally traceable by maintaining the Primary Standards and National Measurement System for Uganda and ensuring their traceability to the international System of Units (SI) at all times.

It also ensures that these National Measurement accuracies are transmitted to the end-users in the country through calibration of measurement systems and standards used by industry, testing and analytical laboratories, and other users of measurements.

Accurate measurements are critical in Manufacturing, research, testing, analysis, trade & law enforcement therefore the newly constructed NML will provide a basis of accurate & reliable measurements expanding to cover the fields of measurement needed to produce quality products.

The New NML Laboratory consists of 10 laboratories in the basement; 7 laboratories on the ground floor; 7 laboratories on the first floor; and, 4 laboratories on the second floor. The Construction works are currently at 89% and expected to be completed soon.
